Leon, Mike, Mark and K.C., the voices of AHMIR, write and arrange original music that provides the soundtrack to your life.  Although the group is not signed to a major label, or the recipient of major funding, AHMIR, through great music, sheer talent, perseverance and hard work, saw their hit single “Welcome To My Party” make its debut in Billboard’s Top 10 R&B/Hip Hop Singles Chart on April 8, 2006 after only a week in stores nationwide.  Their first full album is scheduled for release during Fall 2006.

AHMIR is a truly unique and inspiring group that brings urban and classic R&B sounds together to reflect the wide range of feelings and emotions we all experience.  Their soulful rhythms help soothe away life’s difficult moments.  AHMIR’s tearful ballads make you feel how very special it is to love someone.  And when you just want to let yourself go and raise the roof, their catchy club anthems make you want to dance like there’s no tomorrow.  So no matter where life takes you, AHMIR will be with you every step of the way.

From the streets of New York City, Philadelphia, Upstate New York and Boston, these four gentlemen have lives rich with experience.  Their distinctive sound mixes classical training from the prestigious Boys Choir of Harlem and instinctual training from local church choirs, to become a unified and powerful force that fully engages, provokes and captivates audiences.

First formed in 2002, AHMIR has been featured on Boston’s HOT 97.7 WILD and has opened for major recording artists John Legend, 112, Jagged Edge, KEM, Carl Thomas, Misteeq, Nivea and Jaheim. So far in 2006, AHMIR has won awards for Best R&B Group at the New England Urban Music Awards, Overall Winner for the Worcester Idol Competition, and First Place at the Urban Explosion Talent Competition in NYC. Their music has reached well beyond New England, with a fan base reaching across the globe and music being sold in nearly 200 stores.

ABOUT THE GUYS:

Leon Jones a.k.a. "Mr. Jones"
Birthplace: Boston, MA     Hometown: Boston     College: Northeastern University

Mr. Jones’ parents were both singers when they were younger, and although he has always had music in his bones he fought the feeling for quite some time. He finally started singing in high school and later in his church and college choirs. Mr. Jones’ performances include two “Showtime at the Apollo” appearances.  He has a gift for songwriting and writes for AHMIR and other artists, in addition, Mr. Jones is also an experienced producer.  Mr. Jones also raps, which is a talent of his that many of AHMIR’s fans are just getting to know.   His musical influences include Brian McKnight, Kim Burrell, D'angelo, Musiq, Kanye West, Rodney Jerkins and Just Blaze.

Michael McDonald a.k.a. "Big Mike"
Birthplace: NYC, NY     Hometown: Harlem     College: Boston University

Big Mike's talents have earned him many experiences, including touring the world with the renowned Boys Choir of Harlem as a featured soloist. While part of the choir he shared the stage with the likes of Baby Face, Vanessa Williams, Shania Twain and the late Luther Vandross.  Look out for his killer falsetto - and the fact that he can get around on the piano. Big Mike is an exceptional songwriter, especially when it comes to writing and arranging original ballads.  Big Mike also produces some tracks for AHMIR.  He graduated from Boston University and is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha.  As a devoted member of the church, Big Mike attributes his talent to the grace of God.  Big Mike’s musical influences include Prince, BabyFace, Terrence Wright, JOE, Melanie Daniels and Mario Winans.

Mark E. Robertson, Jr., a.k.a. "Sing-Sing"
Birthplace: Philadelphia, PA     Hometown: Philadelphia     College: Berklee College of Music

Mark has been honing his craft since the age of 10.  His amazing talents draw roots from opera, classical, R&B and gospel. Aside from his dynamic vocal abilities, Mark is a truly gifted piano player and is a very special part of the AHMIR sound and performance. He attended Berklee College of Music, where he earned a degree in Music Business.  He has also recently expanded his diverse flair for everything music by taking up the bass.  Mark is a member of Phi Beta Sigma.  His musical influences include Marvin Gaye, Luther Vandross and D'Angelo.

K.C. Washington a.k.a. "K.C."
Birthplace: Rochester, NY     Hometown: Rochester    College: Monroe, Salters School

K.C. first began discovering his musical talents in school plays when he was just nine years old. He then moved into singing with a local gospel choir, where his love of music and his desire for expression were unified.  The early influences of gospel, hip hop and R&B can all be heard through his voice on a variety of AHMIR’s songs. K.C. has a natural “old-school” falsetto that is his signature style.  Unbeknownst to many, he is also an aspiring model and has several fashion shows under his belt.  His musical influences include Michael Jackson, Donny Hathaway and Carl Thomas.
